about time.

watched the nicest movie i had this year with the hubs yesterday - about time.

its a movie more than about time, it was about love, second chances and time travel.

in brief..

the main character, tim, was told by his father, james, that the men in their family have the ability to time travel when he was 21. however they can only go to moments of their own life. so tim decides to use his time travelling ability to find himself a girlfriend.

his first crush was charlotte, a friend of his sister (kit kat) who came to stay for the summers. due to his shy nature, he only told charlotte the night before she was leaving that he was attracted to her in which charlotte told him that he should not have waited to the last night to tell her. so he went to do his "magic" and returned the time mid of charlotte's stay. this time round, charlotte told him to come back on the last night. at then, he knew that no matter how much time travel he did, charlotte is not going to fall for him...

with a broken heart, he left for london to be a lawyer. in london, he stayed with james' friend, harry, a grouchy and eccentric playwright.

one day, he went to blind date in a dark restaurant with his new friend & colleague, jay. he sat beside a girl, mary, and they hit off very well. mary also liked him and gave him her number..

harry on the other hand, did not have such a successful night. his actor forgot his line and the play was a flop. what happened here, i cant really comprehend. tim actually used his ability to help him! harry being so grouchy and unfriendly but tim still helped him! and in the process of doing so, tim lost mary's number because he time travelled to the time before he and mary met. but he did not undo what he did for harry which surprise me even further. so kind huh...

long story short, tim manage to locate mary. used his ability to "remove" her boyfriend and they started to date. this part was played using a montage with the train station as the main backdrop which i think was quite sweet and romantic. =) all this time, i was holding my breath waiting for "something" to happen. i mean in such situation where both parties are happy and lost in their own world, "something" is bound to happen one right?

well, charlotte appeared.

after using his ability a few times to impress charlotte, he was invited into her apartment. at this point, he suddenly realised what he wants and raced home. got down on one bended knee and created the most romantic proposal. what could be more attractive when a man knows what he wants.. =)

and so they lived happily ever after...

okie.. not really..

in the part of happily ever after there are many other tear jerking parts...

helplessness..

though this movie is about some time travelling ability, which is so out of this world, but it added some 'reality' in it - sometimes in life, there are just times where we can do nothing but face it .

kit kat got into a serious car accident and tim tries to save her by bringing her back to the time when he was 21 to avoid meeting her good-for-nothing-but-trouble boyfriend. however, tim was not able to help her in the end because by travelling back to the time before his daughter, posy, was born means that he had to alter her birth. he came back to the present and found he had a son instead. in the end, all he could do was to stay by kit kat's bed and wait.

and there was james who was dying but he could not change that fact as the cause of it happened before tim's birth. =( since there was nothing he could do to change the fact of his death, he used his ability to spend more time with his family and read more books.. this part is so sad! T__________T

letting go...

the part which i find the hardest to watch was when mary told tim she wanted another child after james has pass on. having another child means that tim will not be able to go back to "visit" his dad anymore! why so sad one!

when tim visit james one last time.. I CRIED BUCKETS and could not stop.... T__________T

they played table tennis and tim won. he ask for a kiss as a reward. from tim's face, james knew that it was time. they time travelled back to the time when tim was just a boy and they spend the whole day at the beach.

the love between the father and son is just too much!!! T____________T

carpe diem..

before james died, he told tim another secret.. he told tim to go through a day normally and go back in time to relive it again, embracing it.. tim realised that he does not need to relive the day. he should instead embrace each day as if it was the last.

mary mary..

one character i found interesting was tim's mother, mary. who i find quite was 'quiet' and 'emotionless' in the show, is actually full of love for her family. there is two scenes of her which made me tear.

one of the first thing she asked mary was to tell her about her weaknesses. mary told her that she was insecure, bad tempered at time and weakness for her son.. the last one made her smile and she shares the same sentiment. they both also agreed that they should not tell tim about it just in case it makes him cocky. and the love between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law starts to blossom.

and one more was when tim asked her how was she putting up with the news that her husband was critically ill, which she responds "i am absolutely uninterested in a life without your father." aww... so sweet right...

there are funny parts too...

actually there are many many funny parts.

i like the one the most where rory turn up with this huge teddy for posy's birthday. clearly excited and saying that he was told that a godfather's gift should not be smaller than the child.

and there was harry sitting beside him with his gift....

... can you see how small harry's gift compared to rory's? lol!

but given harry's character, its already good that he turned up at all AND with a gift..

i know its coming down soon.. but its definitely worth it. =)
