This is my home..

My home does not feel like my home anymore as playing "host" seems to be getting more and more difficult. Feels like roles have been exchanged and i am in a foreign land. Every now and then, i am being challenged by nonsense of my "guests" and i wonder how long more i have to tolerate.

Went to purchase my dinner earlier and gave the cashier a $5 note. The cashier is not a local but i shant comment further on his nationality.

He asked, "Is this singapore money?"

Puzzled, i answered, "Yah."

The note itself is relatively new, no much creases or tear at all. I further explained that it is an old junk boat series of singapore dollar, but it is still "usable".
*please let me know if old notes are not acceptable anymore.. cus i have not heard/ seen of such news about it.

Still examining the $5 note, the cashier told me that he has not seen such a note in singapore and asked if that is really a singapore dollar note and not ringgit.. WHAT?!

I pointed and said that "SINGAPORE" is printed on the note.

But have no idea whats with the man, he finally said something which i gave up trying to speak further to him. "Sorry but i cant read english" HUH? and insist that i give him singapore dollar that he recognises.

This is my home and yet i cannot do what is not wrong?

I wondered if this is the guy's first week at work or what. How can a cashier not recognise a singapore dollar note? Furthermore how can anyone not know simple english? S-I-N-G-A-P-O-R-E and M-A-L-A-Y-S-I-A also cant differentiate? This is super duper ridiculous.

Shortly after this incident, another foreign employee threw away a customer 3/4 filled beer into the dustbin!! The customer was just at the stall next to the table to collect his food. At the turn of his back, the cleaner swiftly threw away the bottle. The customer was horrified so was i. If this cleaner has been in-charge of this area, how can he not notice that the customer has not left? There was only a handful of people sitting there anyway. What is this person doing?

Actions, behaviour and service of these people embarrassed me throughly. These people are working at a place where if you were to search on food in singapore on the website, it is sure to appear. What would tourist think of us then? If i am a tourist i would think twice about visiting again.

There is also an increase in incidents of foreigners "misbehaving" in singapore. What are the mindsets of these people? Dont they realised that is not their home and how can they behave however and whatever way they want? I have been abroad before and i know it is not easy being away from home. To fit in, i cannot insist behaving the way i behaved when i am in singapore afterall that is not my "home". It like wearing singlet and flip flop to a black tie event and tell the host, "i wear these at home anyway". A good host might still invite you in but shouldnt the guests dress appropriately to make sure the host is not embarrassed in front of other guest?

ok.. i think i am too emo.. sleep..
